One of the deepest expressions of trust and dependence on God is recorded in the book of Exodus chapter 33 verse 15 where Moses said: If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.’
After Israel’s failure with the golden calf, God promised to continue leading them through an Angel, but Moses recognized that guidance without God’s presence was not enough. He boldly declared that he would rather stay in the wilderness with God than move forward without Him.
This verse speaks directly to our lives, we often make decisions about careers, relationships, finances, education, relocation, marriage, ministry etc without asking God to journey with us. Moses teaches us that no opportunity is worth pursuing if God is not in it.
Success is often measured by speed, status, and achievements. People are encouraged to “move fast,” “secure the opportunity,” and “take advantage of every chance.” While ambition is not wrong, Exodus chapter 33 verse 15 reminds us that progress without God can lead to regret.
Moses did not ask God for more resources or easier paths. He asked for God’s presence. Psalm 127 verse 1 says: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” Without God’s involvement, even good plans can fail.
Moses understood that Israel’s safety, direction, and future depended on God’s presence. The wilderness was dangerous, unpredictable, and unfamiliar. Without God, they would be lost. Likewise, in our life we experience many uncertainties. Choosing a career, starting a business, entering a relationship, changing locations, or making financial commitments all require wisdom. God is inviting you today to depend on His wisdom, guidance and presence. Proverbs chapter 3 verses 5 and 6 says: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
God’s presence is not limited to church services or prayer moments. It is meant to guide daily living. How we speak, work, spend our time, relate with others, and respond to challenges. God invites us to involve Him in every area of our life.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your loving presence in our lives. Forgive us for the times we have made decisions without seeking You. Teach us to depend on You in all that we do and wherever we go. Help us to value Your presence above success, comfort, and approval. Guide our steps, guard our hearts, and lead us in Your perfect will.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
