Our Bible study for today reminds us of God's repeated call to courage. When Joshua took over leadership after Moses, he faced one of the greatest responsibilities in Israel’s history. He was to lead God’s people into the Promised Land, confront powerful enemies, and establish a new nation. It was a season filled with uncertainty, pressure, and fear.

Knowing the weight on Joshua’s heart, God did something remarkable: He repeatedly encouraged him with the same words: “Be strong and courageous.”

In Joshua chapter 1 alone, God said this to Joshua three times directly in verses 6, 7, and 9, and Joshua later repeated it to the people in verse 18. This repetition shows how important courage was for Joshua’s success.

Joshua had served under Moses for many years. He had seen miracles, victories, and God’s power. Yet when it was time for him to lead, fear was still possible. This tells us that encouragement is not weakness. Even strong people need reassurance.

God knew that Joshua’s biggest battle would not be against enemies outside, but fear inside. God did not just say, “Be strong.” He reminded Joshua of what he carries. In Joshua chapter 1 verse 9, God said: “For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua’s confidence was not built on ability, experience, or strength. It was based on God’s presence.

God repeated “be strong and courageous” because He cared about Joshua’s emotional and spiritual health.

God did not ignore Joshua’s pressure. He spoke into it.

This shows us that God understands our struggles. He knows when we feel overwhelmed, tired, or uncertain. Psalm 103 verse 13 says: “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion…” God still speaks encouragement through Scripture, sermons, prayers, and godly people today. We can tap from it daily if we seek to find it daily.

After receiving God’s encouragement, Joshua passed it on to the people. In Joshua chapter 1 verse 18, Joshua said to be people: “Only be strong and courageous.” Strength is contagious. When God strengthens us, we are meant to strengthen others.

As we press everyday to tap from the strength of God and His words as encouragement for the journey, let us also press to pass the strength we have received to people around us. Together, let us defeat fear and doubt daily.

Let us pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word that strengthens our hearts. Thank You for reminding us, just as You reminded Joshua, to be strong and courageous.

We confess that sometimes we are afraid, discouraged, and uncertain. Forgive us for allowing fear to limit our faith. Fill us with Your courage, peace, and confidence.

Help us to obey You boldly, trust You fully, and walk in Your purpose faithfully. Let Your presence go with us in every season of life.

Make us strong in faith and brave in obedience. Use our lives to encourage others.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
